parents. Jo has been a supporter of them since 2000, and is now its president

Comic Relief:
Comic Relief raises
money for countries in Africa and for disadvantaged people in the UK. Every
pound that is donated to Comic Relief is used to help people, which they call
the Golden Pound Principle. Jo wrote two books, Quidditch through the Ages and
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which were meant to model real Hogwarts
library books! The money earned from these books was donated to Comic Relief! So
far the books have made over $30 million (15.7 million) for Comic Relief, and
another $20 million (10.8 million) for other causes.

Amnesty International:
Amnesty International is a worldwide group of people who campaign for human
rights. The people unite to work for a world where everybody has human rights.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland:
Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland is a foundation that raises money and
support for research and treatment of multiple sclerosis, the disease that
killed her mother in 1990. Jo has contributed a lot of money to this foundation
and donated money toward the creation of a new Centre for Regenerative Medicine
at Edinburgh University.
Other:
-In January of 2006, Jo traveled to Bucharest to raise funds for a charity
called Children's High Level Group. This is an organization to help build rights
for mentally ill children in Easter Europe.
-In August of 2006, Jo read with authors Stephen King and John Irving at the
Radio City Music Hall in New York City. All profits went to the Haven
Foundation, a charity that helps aspiring artists and performers, and the
Doctors without Borders. You can donate to Doctors without Borders

-In May of 2007, Jo donated $495,000 to help find Madeleine McCann, a young
British girl who disappeared in Portugal.
